Watch the beginnings of victory at the Grand Départ
This year’s Tour de France will make its Grand Départ (grand departure) at Vendée in the Pays de la Loire region that extends along part of the country’s western coastline.
Famous for its scenic coast, beautiful parks and historic castles, Vendée offers a taste of rustic beauty that regular visitors to Paris and other French cities may not yet have experienced.
This region is accessible via the Nantes Atlantique Airport (55km away) or the closer-by Montoir Airport (35km away). A short but scenic drive is all that’s required to reach the Tour de France’s official starting point in the town of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île.
Will Nibali unseat Froome at this year’s event?
While Team Sky’s Chris Froome is a strong favourite to win this year’s event, Bahrain Merida’s Vincenzo Nibali is expected to pull out the stops to challenge him for the glass trophy.
The likes of Richie Porte and Romain Bardet are also strong contenders, and should either Froome or Nibali falter, they may find themselves in the lead.
Choose your favourite Tour stage - and view the action at your leisure
